Noel-less Oasis plods on as “Beady Eye”

17 11 2010

Exit Noel Gallagher and Oasis.  Enter Beady Eye.  The new band is made up of Liam Gallagher, Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock.

If the new song, “Bring the Light,” is any indication, I think we might soon see just how indispensable Noel is to Oasis.  This song has a decent groove to it, but “Baby come on” repeated over and over and over just doesn’t cut it.

Decide for yourselves.

Chinese government responsible for Oasis shows cancellation

2 03 2009

Apparently the brothers Gallagher were ready, willing and able to perform in China but the Chinese government canceled the scheduled shows.   The reason:

“According to the show’s promoters, officials within the Chinese Ministry of Culture only recently discovered that Noel Gallagher appeared at a Free Tibet Benefit Concert on Randall’s Island in New York in 1997, and have now deemed that the band are consequently unsuitable to perform to their fans in the Chinese Republic on 3rd and 5th of April, during its 60th anniversary year.

Oasis cancels its China tour

2 03 2009

Concert organizers confirmed Monday that British rock band Oasis has canceled tour dates in Beijing and Shanghai in April.

The shows, scheduled for Beijing’s Capital Arena on April 3 and the Shanghai Grand Stage on April 5, would have been the first in mainland China for the group, currently on a world tour promoting its latest release, “Dig Out Your Soul.”

No explanation has been given for the cancellation, said a venue manager who refused to give his name.

This wouldn’t be the first time Oasis has, in dramatic fashion, made some change to its tour.  I’m dying to know whether the decision was driven internally (like some flare-up involving one of the Gallaghers) or externally (Chinese government intrusion.)  Hopefully we’ll find out soon.

Oasis’s “Falling Down” video finds its way to youtube

8 02 2009

This video was released just a few days back as a myspace “exclusive.” It’s now on youtube for those of you that haven’t seen it or who couldn’t link to and/or embed it.

Oasis’s new video, “Falling Down”

3 02 2009

This video is brand-spankin’ new it appears.  It’s a nice work of art.  I’m not sure what is reality and what is fantasy, but it paints a nice picture of someone cracking up under the pressure of a double life.

The song is one of Oasis’s best in years.  It should eventually find it’s way onto a “best of” collection when the boys finally call it quits.  There’s a bit of “Tomorrow Never Knows” in the rhythm section.  Noel’s vocals are superb.  The lyrics are great, some of Noel’s best work.  I’m biased, admittedly.  Most of their stuff pleases me.
